It has been some time but I finally managed to visit my favourite Fountain Pen Shop in person!
I travelled all the way to Wales in the United Kingdom so I can experience browsing inks and picking them up in my hands and it was worth it!
Pure Pens was the first shop I ever placed an order with online, and it holds a special place in my heart!
It was tricky to find at first, so if you get a Taxi from Newport Train station, tell the taxi driver that it is after the Lorry Park. Also, it is important to note that Google has the address registered in the wrong format. The correct one is:
12 Waterside Court, Albany Street, Newport, NP20 5NT
It is also worth mentioning that this is not a sponsored post, nor do I have any affiliation with any brand or company. As always I purchase the goods for myself and I only post my honest opinions.
Now, after I arrived at the correct destination, I was greeted by the staff. It is not exactly a “walk-in” shop, as it is the warehouse for their e-shop, so you have to ring the bell and be let in. This makes everything a much better experience as the environment is very relaxing, and you can leave your stuff on the side without worrying about people walking in and out.
I was dumbfounded by the amount of inks, pens, and stationery supplies they had in stock! They even carry some hard-to-find Japanese brush pens. I really loved that they had little binders with ink swatches on the shelves of each brand or category, which helped me see the real colours of each ink and discover inks I’ve never seen before and others that look so different online that I would have never thought to order.
The big bonus to making the experience even better was the staff. Big thanks to Sophia and Billie for making this visit special. Very kind staff, willing to help, with good banter and very friendly “auras”.
Here are some photos of the space, and a picture I took of some of the things I got while I was shopping: (click to enlarge so you can see the entire image)
I discovered so many nice things and I can only dream about all the inky experiments of the next few months!
Also, at this point, I need to express my gratitude to r/fountainpens on Reddit for being such a lovely community and for welcoming me to this wonderful inky world! All these nice people, and all the tips and posts they share, have made this an amazing journey of learning, exploration, and expression, with a vivid motivation to go even deeper on the fountain pen hobby, which has already started turning into a lifestyle, haha.
I digress!
